About

Cartwright Ridge Campground occupies the north end of Sage Hen Reservoir in Idaho's Boise National Forest. The setting is a mixed conifer forest of Ponderosa pine, Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir, and grand fir at 4,800 feet elevation. Most sites offer shade, and some have partial lake views. Wildlife in the area includes deer, elk, black bear, goshawk, woodpeckers, and boreal owls. The campground is part of a recreation complex at Sage Hen Reservoir that includes multiple campgrounds. A boat ramp and dock within the campground provide easy access for motorized and non-motorized boating. The 4-mile Sage Hen Reservoir Trail loop is accessible from the campground for hiking. ATV and motorcycle trails are also accessible from the area. The campground is primitive with vault toilets only. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. Access requires approximately 19 miles of travel on Forest Service roads 618, 626, and 614 from the town of Ola.

Directions

From Boise, travel north on State Highway 55 approximately 30 miles to Horseshoe Bend. Turn west onto State Highway 52 and drive 9 miles to the junction with the Sweet/Ola Highway. Turn north and travel 16 miles to Ola. From Ola, continue northeast on Forest Service Road 618 for 10 miles, then 7 miles on FS Road 626, then approximately 2 miles northeast on FS Road 614 to Sage Hen Reservoir.
