About

Teal Lake Group Campsite offers a scenic group camping experience along a small, clear 50-acre lake surrounded by pine-fir forest in the Routt National Forest. The tent-only group site accommodates up to 21 people with 4 picnic tables, 2 fire rings, and a gravel parking area for 7 vehicles. At 9,000 ft elevation in north central Colorado, the area is generally snow-free from Memorial Day to Labor Day, though visitors should prepare for freezing temperatures and possible snow even in summer. Trout fishing is popular in the calm, clear waters of Teal Lake, and only electric or non-motorized boats are permitted. Off-road vehicle enthusiasts can access the Grizzly-Helena Trail nearby, while hikers can explore trails in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness, though trailheads require a short drive. The campground provides vault toilets but currently has no potable water available. Black bear, elk, mule deer, moose, and other wildlife inhabit the surrounding forests. The nearest town is Walden, Colorado, approximately 20 miles to the east.
