About

Granite Campground is a remote, primitive campground perched at 10,200 feet on the shore of Fish Creek Reservoir, managed by the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District. The campground offers 8 sites total: 4 walk-in tent sites and 4 drive-up sites, making it well-suited for tent campers seeking solitude in a high-alpine setting. Facilities are minimal but functional, with one vault toilet and trash collection provided. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The reservoir allows fishing and non-motorized boating, while surrounding trails accommodate hiking, mountain biking, and ATV use. Access requires a high-clearance vehicle via Buffalo Pass Road. The campground typically opens mid to late July once snowmelt allows road access and remains open until snow makes the road impassable, usually in early fall. Payment is $20 per night, cash or check only.
