Seedhouse Group Site

Closed — Closed for the season. Typically operates from early to mid-June through mid-October depending on snow conditions.

About

Seedhouse Group Site is located 25 miles north of Steamboat Springs in the heart of the Routt National Forest along the Elk River corridor. Situated at 8,000 feet elevation in the Rocky Mountains, this group campground provides a private retreat for gatherings of up to 100 guests with eight primitive tent sites and a large picnic shelter that can accommodate 20 people. Each site includes a campfire ring and picnic table, and the facility is equipped with bear-proof food storage lockers and trash receptacles for visitor safety. The campground serves as an excellent base for wilderness adventures near the Mount Zirkel Wilderness. Campers can access the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail via a connector trail within a short drive. Water is available via hand pump well systems throughout the area. The Elk River and several mountain streams offer excellent trout fishing opportunities, while the surrounding national forest provides abundant trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-highway vehicle use. The area is home to diverse wildlife including black bear, bobcat, coyote, elk, mule deer, and moose. The campground is surrounded by large spruce and fir trees, though the area has undergone management to remove hazard trees affected by mountain pine beetle. Visitors can enjoy the sound of the Middle Fork of the Elk River from the campground. Steamboat Lake State Park is a short drive away for additional recreational opportunities.
