About

Grizzly Guard Station Interpretive Site is a day-use recreation area situated in the Mount Zirkel/Park Range region of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Jackson County, Colorado. The site preserves and interprets a historic Forest Service ranger station, with simple educational panels describing the lives of rangers who once staffed the station and the natural history of the surrounding landscape. The interpretive site is located approximately 11 miles west of Walden via Highway 14 to Hebron, then following County Road 24 west until it becomes Forest Road 60. The area sits among open grassland and sagebrush with nearby aspen groves and lodgepole pine forests, offering opportunities for viewing wildlife such as elk, deer, and moose. This is a day-use site only. Overnight camping is not permitted at the interpretive site itself. Visitors seeking overnight accommodations in the area may consider the nearby Grizzly Creek Guard Station Recreation Rental, a separate historic cabin available for reservation through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Walden, take Highway 14 west for approximately 11 miles to Hebron. Turn right on County Road 24 driving west. Follow County Road 24 as it forks left and then right at intersections with County Roads 1 and 5. After approximately 10 miles the road becomes Forest Road 60 and you arrive at the Grizzly Guard Station Interpretive Site.
