About

Grizzly Creek Guard Station offers a unique lodging experience in the Routt National Forest of northern Colorado. This historic two-room cabin sits at 8,500 feet elevation in an open area among grassland and sagebrush, with nearby aspen groves and lodgepole pine forests. The cabin sleeps five on bunkbeds with mattresses and includes a table, chairs, cooking utensils, pots, and pans. The cabin is heated by a propane-powered heater and features a propane range stove for cooking. There is no electricity, running water, or indoor plumbing. An accessible outhouse with a vault toilet is located approximately 25 feet from the cabin. From late June through October, water can be hauled from a campground spigot about 3 miles away; during winter months, guests must bring their own water supply. The Mount Zirkel Wilderness lies east of the guard station, offering hiking, fishing, and horseback riding opportunities in summer. Winter brings excellent cross-country skiing and snowmobile access. The cabin is accessible by passenger vehicle when roads are clear, though high-clearance vehicles are recommended in spring and fall. Winter access requires snowmobile, cross-country skis, or snowshoes.
