About

Dumont Campground is a high-alpine destination at 9,500 feet elevation, located 22 miles southeast of Steamboat Springs on Rabbit Ears Pass. The campground borders the Continental Divide atop the Park Range and offers views of several Rocky Mountain ranges. The 50-acre Dumont Lake is surrounded by spruce-fir forest and alpine meadows with colorful wildflowers in summer. The campground has 22 sites with a mix of pull-through and back-in configurations. Seventeen sites are reservable through Recreation.gov while six are first-come, first-served. Each site includes a fire grate and picnic table. Three vault toilets are available, but no potable water is provided. Payment at the self-serve fee station is cash or check only. Recreation includes spin and fly fishing for trout in the lake and stream, hiking on nearby trails including the two-mile Rabbit Ears Trail and Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. The area is particularly known for birding opportunities. Black bear, elk, mule deer, and moose inhabit the surrounding forest.

Directions

From Steamboat Springs, travel 22 miles southeast on U.S. Highway 40/Rabbit Ears Pass. Turn left on Forest Road 315 at the Dumont Campground sign. The campground is about one mile from the highway.
