Special Weather Statement issued December 29 at 1:04PM EST by NWS Burlington VT

December 29th, 1:04 PM — 1:00 AM

Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing this afternoon and evening. This will lead to any untreated surfaces quickly freezing. Sacttered snow showers could quickly coat roads. Use caution if driving or walking. Increasing winds this afternoon and evening could cause isolated power outages due to lingering ice loading on trees and powerlines. Wind chills below zero tonight will affect anyone still without power or outside.

About

Meacham Lake Campground is located on the north and west shores of Meacham Lake, a 1,203-acre undeveloped lake in Franklin County within the Adirondack Park. The campground represents the only development on this pristine lake, offering visitors a wide open view of a truly wild area where loons can often be heard calling in early morning and late evening. Originally established in 1934 with construction by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the campground has been expanded over the decades and now features 223 campsites that can accommodate everything from small tents to large recreational vehicles. The west side of the campground offers primitive and walk-in sites for those seeking a more rustic experience, while the main campground accommodates both tents and RVs. Facilities include hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, and a recycling center. Recreation opportunities are abundant, with a sand beach and bathhouse for swimming, a boat launch with accessible floating docks, and rentals available for rowboats, kayaks, canoes, and standup paddleboards. The lake is popular with anglers targeting northern pike, yellow perch, and bullhead. An activities area provides volleyball, horseshoes, and a playground, and Environmental Interpreters lead programs during the summer season. Surrounded by extensive tracts of Wild Forest state land and the northern mountains, the area offers excellent hiking opportunities including trails to Debar Mountain and nearby St. Regis Mountain, both offering panoramic views. The Adirondack Park Visitor Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths is located just 8 miles south of the campground.
