About

Buck Pond Campground is a mountain retreat in the northern Adirondacks, situated on the western shore of 130-acre Buck Pond. Lake Kushaqua and the Kushaqua Narrows form most of the western and northern boundaries, providing extensive water access for campers. The campground features 116 secluded campsites that can accommodate camping equipment from tents to 30-foot RVs, with modern amenities including hot showers, flush toilets, and a trailer dump station. Recreational opportunities abound at Buck Pond. The campground offers a guarded sand beach with bathhouse, boat launches on both Buck Pond and Lake Kushaqua, and rentals for canoes, rowboats, kayaks, and standup paddleboards. Buck Pond permits only electric motors and non-motorized boats, while Lake Kushaqua allows motorized boats. Fishing is excellent with northern pike, yellow perch, and brown bullhead in Buck Pond, plus black bass and rainbow trout in Lake Kushaqua. Hikers enjoy the miles-long trail along an abandoned D&H railroad bed, with nearby access to St. Regis Mountain and Debar Mountain. The campground's main road follows the original roadbed of the Chateaugay Branch of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad. The facility opened in 1968 after construction began in 1965. Located 25 miles north of Lake Placid and near the Six Nations Indian Museum and Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center, Buck Pond provides a secluded base for exploring the northern Adirondacks.
