About
Target Meadows Campground offers 17 campsites arranged around a scenic meadow in the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon. The setting features towering Engelmann spruce and lodgepole pine trees, creating a peaceful high-elevation retreat. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and potable water centrally located. The campground's history distinguishes it from other Forest Service sites. From the late 1880s through 1906, U.S. Army soldiers from Fort Walla Walla used this meadow as a summer encampment and artillery range. Explorers can still find grooves carved into trees by cavalry bullets from over a century ago. Nearby, the Burnt Cabin Trailhead provides access to the South Fork Walla Walla River Trail, though the bridge on Burnt Cabin Trail is currently closed due to instability. The campground receives light use and provides a quiet base for exploring the surrounding forest.
