ESFPDT Moderate rain this weekend in the Washington Cascades and northern Blue Mountains combined with snowmelt from above normal temperatures will lead to river rises this weekend and early next week. Most rivers are currently running at low levels and the increased streamflows will not be a problem. However, the Naches River at Cliffdell and at Naches are expected to rise above Action Stage early Saturday through Monday. The Grande Ronde River at Troy is expected to rise but stay barely below Action Stage Monday through Tuesday morning. Only localized minor flooding is expected. Please monitor the latest river forecasts from the National Weather Service for additional information.
About
Ruckle Junction Warming Shelter is located at Junction 9 along the Summit Trail in the Umatilla National Forest's Walla Walla Ranger District. This warming shelter serves winter recreationists traveling the 10-mile Summit Trail, which follows scenic ridge tops with many open areas between Andies's Prairie and Ruckle Junction. The facility provides shelter for snowmobilers using the groomed trail system maintained by the Oregon State Snowmobile Association, as well as cross-country skiers and snowshoers exploring the Blue Mountains in winter. The Summit Trail to Ruckle Junction travels along ridge tops offering scenic winter views, and High Ridge Lookout is located about half a mile off the trail near the shelter. The trail south of Ruckle Junction is groomed only occasionally and is recommended for experienced snowmobilers. Access to the area is typically from Spout Springs Sno-Park or Woodland Morning Sno-Park along Highway 204.
Directions
From Weston, travel 23 miles east on Highway 204. From Elgin, travel 18 miles north on Highway 204. Access via Spout Springs Sno-Park or Woodland Morning Sno-Park. The shelter is located at Junction 9 along the Summit Trail (Forest Service Road 31), approximately 10 miles from Junction 7.
