About

Tar Camp Park occupies a scenic stretch of riverfront along the Arkansas River near Pool 5 Lock and Dam in Jefferson County. Managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, this established campground provides over 50 sites in a forested setting, with approximately 45 featuring electric (20/30/50 amp) and water hookups. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, grill, and movable lamp post. Modern amenities include flush restrooms, showers, potable water, trash collection, and an RV dump station. The campground draws anglers seeking excellent catfish fishing in the tailwaters of Joe Hardin Lock and Dam and Emmitt Sanders Lock and Dam. Bass, crappie, and bream are also commonly caught. A fishing dock and boat launch provide river access. Beyond fishing, families enjoy the playground, rock climbing wall, basketball court, and two large group picnic shelters that can each accommodate up to 60 people. Historically significant, the site served as a natural stopping point during the 1830s Trail of Tears journey. Interpretive exhibits focus on the Cherokee and Creek water journey experience. Little Rock is approximately 30 minutes away, while the nearby town of Pine Bluff offers the Arkansas Railroad Museum and other attractions.
