About

Tar Camp Park is situated along the Arkansas River near Pool 5 Lock and Dam, approximately 4 miles from Redfield in Jefferson County. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground offers over 50 sites in a forested riverside setting, with most sites providing electric and water hookups. Each campsite includes a movable lamp post, grill, campfire ring, and picnic table. The campground is particularly popular among anglers, offering excellent catfish fishing in the tail-waters of Joe Hardin Lock and Dam as well as Emmitt Sanders Lock and Dam. Bass, crappie, and bream are also commonly caught. The park includes two large group picnic shelters that accommodate up to 60 people each, a playground, basketball court, and rock climbing wall. Duck hunting is available on the waterways, and nearby forests offer additional hunting opportunities. The park is located in a forested area along the riverfront near rolling cotton fields, at 193 feet above sea level. Red fox are frequently seen, and numerous species of waterfowl inhabit the water and shores. Little Rock is a short drive away, and the nearby town of Pine Bluff offers shopping, groceries, and attractions including the Arkansas Railroad Museum.

Directions

From Redfield, take State Route 46 east to State Route 365. Turn left and go 1 block, then turn right and drive 4 miles to Tar Camp Park. Follow signs into the campground.
