About

Tangle Lakes Campground is a BLM-managed facility located at Milepost 21.5 on the north side of the Denali Highway, positioned within both the Delta Wild and Scenic River corridor and the Tangle Lakes Archaeological District. The area holds over 10,000 years of documented human use. The campground rests amid a series of long, narrow lakes connected by the Tangle River, forming the headwaters of the Delta River. The facility offers 45 accessible campsites and 4 walk-in sites with raised tent pads. Amenities include six double vault toilets (several ADA-accessible), two hand-pump wells for potable water, fire rings with grill attachments, wheelchair-accessible picnic tables, bear-proof trash receptacles and food lockers, and a paved boat launch. The boat launch serves as the designated put-in for the popular 30-mile Delta Wild and Scenic River float trip. The Tangle Ridge Hiking Trail for non-motorized use extends from the campground, providing 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. Moose and caribou frequent the area, making this a popular base camp during fall hunting season.
