About

Birch Lake State Recreation Site sits on a scenic 48-acre parcel along the Richardson Highway, approximately 60 miles southeast of Fairbanks. The campground offers 17 long parking spaces suitable for motorhomes, 3 short spaces for smaller self-contained vehicles, and 5 walk-in tent camping sites. All campsites are first-come, first-served with a 15-day camping limit. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, king and silver salmon, grayling, and arctic char, providing excellent fishing opportunities year-round. Summer visitors enjoy jet skiing and water skiing, while winter brings snow machine trails and ice fishing. Alaska State Parks rents a public use cabin and five ice huts for winter anglers. Facilities include vault toilets, a hand-pump drinking water well, fire rings, picnic tables, and trash collection. The boat launch features an ADA-accessible courtesy dock with an approximate 20-minute time limit. Winter visitors should note that the road to the lake is not plowed and requires 4-wheel-drive access. Campers should bring their own firewood, especially in winter when scavenging is limited.
