About

Donnelly Creek State Recreation Site sits along the braided Delta River at mile 238 of the Richardson Highway, providing one of Alaska's most scenic camping experiences. The 46-acre campground offers unobstructed views of the Alaska Range's tallest peaks and serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the surrounding wilderness. The 12 campsites are seldom crowded, making this an ideal destination for those seeking solitude. Wildlife abounds in the area, with moose, grizzly bears, porcupines, beavers, and snowshoe hares frequently spotted. Caribou and the Delta bison herd are occasionally visible browsing nearby. The campground and surrounding hills are popular spots for blueberry picking in late summer. Activities include hiking, biking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, birding, and fishing. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and access to vault toilets and hand pump drinking water. Campers should secure food in vehicles due to occasional grizzly bear visits. A public use cabin (Site #127) is available year-round for those seeking shelter. The maximum stay is 15 days.
