About

Salcha River State Recreation Site sits on 61 acres at Mile 323.3 of the Richardson Highway, approximately 40 miles southeast of Fairbanks in Interior Alaska. The campground offers 6 campsites on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum stay of 15 days. Facilities include accessible toilets, drinking water, picnic sites, and a motorized boat launch for river access. The Salcha River is renowned for its excellent grayling fishery throughout the open water season and hosts a productive salmon run in July. The site serves both summer campers and winter recreationists, with opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowmachining up and down the frozen river. A public-use cabin is also available for those seeking more sheltered accommodations. This is a basic, no-frills state recreation site without hookups or reservations. RVs are permitted, and the site provides a convenient base for exploring the Interior Alaska wilderness and fishing the clear waters of the Salcha River.
