Squirrel Creek State Recreation Site offers 25 first-come, first-served campsites in Alaska's scenic Copper River Valley. Located at Mile 79.5 of the Richardson Highway, approximately 35.5 miles south of Glennallen, this 160-acre state recreation site provides a peaceful camping experience bounded by Squirrel Creek, the Tonsina River, and a small lake. The campground accommodates both tent campers and RVs of any size, making it accessible for various camping setups. Operated by concessionaire Tonsina Lodge, the campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and potable water. Each campsite features a fire pit and picnic table. Campers are required to bring their own firewood as none is provided on-site. The location offers fishing opportunities in the nearby waterways and serves as a convenient stopping point for travelers along the Richardson Highway. The campground operates seasonally from May through September, typical for Alaska state parks in this region. A 15-day camping limit applies. Daily parking and camping fees are collected via self-registration. The remote Copper Valley location provides an authentic Alaska camping experience with opportunities to enjoy the natural surroundings away from urban areas.
