Fielding Lake State Recreation Area

Open

The campground is currently closed due to seasonal snow conditions. It typically opens in late spring once snowmelt allows road access, with water service determining when fees are charged. The 2-mile access road usually becomes snowed in by mid-October.

About

Fielding Lake State Recreation Site sits at Mile 200.5 of the Richardson Highway, approximately 67 miles south of Delta Junction. At 2,973 feet elevation, this 605-acre alpine recreation area rises above tree line, offering expansive views and a true backcountry feel. The 17 campsites are first-come, first-served and provide a rustic camping experience with vault toilets, drinking water, and fire rings. The lake supports natural populations of Arctic grayling, lake trout, and burbot, making it a destination for anglers. A boat launch provides access to the water for fishing and paddling. Because of the high elevation, ice often lingers on the lake into July, and nights remain cool even in summer. A 12x14 public-use cabin sleeping up to six is available by reservation for those seeking shelter from the elements. The cabin includes a wood stove, but firewood is scarce at this elevation and must be brought in. Winter access requires snowmachine, skis, or snowshoes for the 1.5-mile trek from the highway, as the access road is typically snowed in by mid-October.
