Paxson Lake Campground is a Bureau of Land Management facility situated at Mile 175 of the Richardson Highway along the shores of Paxson Lake in interior Alaska. The campground offers 50 campsites including 40 drive-in sites, 10 walk-in sites, and 2 designated accessible sites with raised tent pads. Sites are arranged in two loops connected by a trail and bridge across the creek. All campsites include picnic tables and fire rings with grill attachments, with some tables and grills meeting accessibility requirements. The facility features six double vault toilets (three accessible), potable water from a hand pump well, bear-proof trash receptacles and food lockers, and parking for vehicles and trailers. A paved boat launch with parking for 70 vehicles provides access to Paxson Lake for fishing and serves as the starting point for floating the main branch of the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River. An accessible boardwalk in the first loop provides foot trail access to the lake and boat mooring area. All sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis at $20 per night. An RV dump station is available with a $10 fee for non-campers. The campground typically operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with exact dates weather-dependent. Located in Alaska's interior, the area offers opportunities for fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, berry picking, and access to the nearby Denali Highway.
