About

Sourdough Creek Campground is a Bureau of Land Management facility located at MP 147.5 of the Richardson Highway near the shores of the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River. The campground provides 42 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, including 4 ADA-accessible sites clustered together (sites 13-16) with raised tent pads and accessible picnic tables, plus 2 walk-in sites. The campground serves as a major access point for the Gulkana River, with a boat launch at the river's edge that functions as both a put-in and take-out for float trips, as well as access for jet boat users. From approximately Memorial Day through mid-July, the campground experiences peak activity from fishermen and boaters targeting king salmon, with numerous fishing guides utilizing the boat launch. Activity typically decreases after the salmon season subsides. Recreational opportunities include bank fishing, hunting access for caribou and moose, berry picking, and hiking the 1-mile accessible Sourdough Creek Interpretive Trail that loops through the western portion of the campground along Sourdough Creek and the Gulkana River. The site features an accessible fishing area at the boat launch and interpretive panels about local flora and fauna. In winter, the campground is accessible only by snow machine, foot, or dog sled.
