About

Sourdough Creek Campground is a BLM-managed facility at Mile Post 147.5 of the Richardson Highway, positioned where Sourdough Creek meets the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River. The campground provides 42 sites including 4 ADA-accessible sites clustered together and 2 walk-in tent sites. All sites operate first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. The campground features vault toilets, seasonally hauled potable water from a central tank, picnic tables, and fire rings with grill attachments. A one-mile accessible interpretive trail connects the accessible campsites to the boat launch and accessible fishing ramps at the river confluence. The boat launch serves as both put-in and take-out for Gulkana River float trips and accommodates jet boats. The busiest period spans Memorial Day through mid-July when King salmon fishing draws heavy traffic from anglers and fishing guides. After the salmon runs subside, the campground quiets considerably. Additional activities include bank fishing, berry picking, and access for subsistence hunting of caribou and moose in the surrounding area.
