About

Lake Waramaug State Park encompasses 95 acres on the shores of Connecticut's second-largest natural lake, offering some of the state's most scenic camping. The campground features 76 sites and 6 rustic cabins, many with views of the pristine 656-acre glacial lake. Sites include picnic tables, fire rings, and grates, accommodating up to six people with a 14-day maximum stay. The park's six rustic cabins sleep 4-6 people with double beds and bunks, available Friday-Saturday through Labor Day. Named after Chief Waramaug of the Wyantenock Tribe, whose name translates to "place of good fishing," the lake lives up to its reputation with excellent largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing, plus perch, sunfish, and bullhead. The park provides the only public access point on this lake featured in "1,000 Places to See Before You Die." Activities include swimming at the sandy beach, car-top boating with on-site kayak and canoe rentals, and cycling the scenic 8-mile perimeter road offering unobstructed water views. The campground provides modern amenities including bathhouses with hot showers, dishwashing facilities, potable water, firewood and ice sales, and a dump station. The park serves as an ideal base for exploring the Litchfield Hills region, including nearby Hopkins Vineyard and other attractions. Fall brings spectacular foliage reflected in the lake's calm waters, making it a magnet for photographers and leaf peepers.
