About
Table Mountain Group Campground sits at 8,500 feet along the South Fork of Bishop Creek, about 18 miles southwest of Bishop, California. A short trail shaded by aspen and Jeffrey pine leads to the streamside camp, where anglers can pursue trout in the creek and hikers can access the Tyee Lakes Trail less than a mile up the road. The trail climbs Table Mountain with views of the Inconsolable Range and the peaks surrounding South Lake. This is a walk-in tent camping only site with a single group area accommodating up to 25 people. The campground provides vault toilets, bear boxes, campfire rings, and picnic tables, but no potable water is available. Campers must bring their own drinking water and store all food properly in the provided bear boxes. RVs are not permitted and overnight parking in the lot is prohibited. Nearby services including boat ramps, bait shops, convenience stores, and restaurants are available at South Lake, Sabrina Lake, South Fork, Bishop Creek Lodge, and Parcher's Resort. Day hikes to Tyee, Green, Brown, and Treasure Lakes are accessible, and horseback rides into the John Muir Wilderness can be arranged with Rainbow Pack Outfit.
Directions
From Highway 395 in Bishop, head west on Line Street (Highway 168) for approximately 15 miles. Turn left onto South Lake Road and continue for 4 miles to the campground.
