About

Table Mountain Group Campground sits along the South Fork of Bishop Creek in Inyo National Forest, 18 miles southwest of Bishop. At 8,500 feet elevation, this walk-in tent campground is nestled among aspen and Jeffrey pine trees, offering a streamside setting ideal for group camping. The site accommodates up to 25 people and requires advance reservations through Recreation.gov. The campground provides vault toilets, bear-proof food storage boxes, picnic tables, and campfire rings. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. The location serves as an excellent base for fishing Bishop Creek's trout-stocked waters and accessing wilderness trails. Less than a mile up the road, the Tyee Lakes Trail climbs Table Mountain with views of the Inconsolable Range and peaks surrounding South Lake. Nearby attractions include South Lake and Lake Sabrina with boat ramps, convenience stores and restaurants at South Fork and Bishop Creek Lodge, and multiple day hiking options to Tyee, Green, Brown, and Treasure Lakes. The John Muir Wilderness offers extensive backcountry opportunities, with horseback riding available through local outfitters. This is an active bear area, and use of provided bear boxes is mandatory.

Directions

From Highway 395 in Bishop, turn west on Line Street (Highway 168) and continue west for 15 miles. Turn left on South Lake Road and continue for 4 miles to the campground.
