About

Forks Campground is situated at 7,800 feet elevation near the junction of the South Fork and Middle Fork of Bishop Creek in Inyo National Forest. The campground features 27 campsites nestled among aspen and pine trees, with several sites positioned directly along the banks of Bishop Creek. This is an active bear area, and all sites are equipped with bear-proof food storage boxes that must be used to secure food and scented items overnight and when unattended. The campground provides access to excellent fishing opportunities in Bishop Creek and serves as a gateway to the South Lake and Lake Sabrina areas. Numerous hiking trails branch out from the surrounding area, offering access to alpine lakes and High Sierra wilderness. Wildlife viewing is common, particularly for birds and deer in the riparian zone along the creek. Forks Campground operates with a hybrid reservation system. From the season opening through mid-May, sites are first-come, first-served. From mid-May through late October, all sites require advance reservations through Recreation.gov. The campground includes flush toilets, potable water from hand pumps, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. A camp host is on-site during the operating season. The maximum stay is 14 consecutive days.

Directions

From Bishop, go west on State Route 168 (Line Street) approximately 15 miles. Turn left at the junction of South Lake Road; the campground will be the first right turn about 1/4 mile.
