About

Located approximately 9 miles west of Bishop along Highway 168, Big Trees Campground offers 16 campsites nestled among large Jeffrey pines that give the campground its name. Situated at 7,500 feet elevation along the banks of Bishop Creek, the campground provides a pleasant mix of shaded and sunny sites with easy access to stream fishing opportunities. The facility operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. As an active bear area, all sites are equipped with bear-proof food storage containers measuring 48" x 30" x 36", which must be used to secure all food and scented items overnight and when unattended. The campground features flush toilets and potable water available from a hand pump. Amenities include picnic tables and fire pits at each site, though there are no electrical hookups. The maximum stay is 7 days, and dogs are permitted on leash. The campground's location along Bishop Creek provides excellent access to fishing and serves as a convenient base for exploring the Bishop Creek Canyon area, including the three main forks that lead to North Lake, Lake Sabrina, and South Lake. The area experiences heavy usage during the operating season. Due to its elevation and winter snow conditions, the campground closes seasonally for winter months.

Directions

From Bishop, drive west on State Route 168 (West Line Street) for approximately 9 miles. The campground is on the left just past the 7,000-foot elevation sign.
