About
Named for the towering Jeffrey pines that grace its grounds, Big Trees Campground offers a classic Sierra Nevada camping experience along the banks of Bishop Creek. The 16-site campground sits at approximately 7,000 feet elevation, about 9 miles west of Bishop via State Route 168, providing easy access to the surrounding Inyo National Forest recreation opportunities. The campground features a mix of shaded and sunny sites, each equipped with a picnic table and bear box. Flush toilets and drinking water from a hand pump are available. This is an active bear area, and all food must be stored in the provided bear boxes when unattended. Dogs are welcome but must remain leashed at all times. Big Trees operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The maximum stay is 7 days. Given its convenient location along Bishop Creek and proximity to town, the campground sees heavy use, particularly on summer weekends. Anglers will appreciate the fishing access along the creek.
Directions
From Bishop, go west on State Route 168 (West Line Street) for approximately 9 miles. The campground is on the left just past the 7,000 foot elevation sign.
