About
Intake 2 Campground is a small, scenic campground nestled along Intake 2 lake in Bishop Creek Canyon, approximately 16 miles west of Bishop on State Route 168. The campground is divided into two areas: 5 walk-in sites on the west shore of the lake and 11 sites suitable for small vehicles near the creek above Intake 2 lake. The lake is stocked with rainbow, brown, brook, and Alpers trout, making it a popular destination for anglers who can fish from their campsites or from the lake shore. Situated in the Inyo National Forest at an elevation of approximately 8,200 feet, the campground offers stunning views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada peaks. The area features a mix of alpine and high desert scenery, with opportunities for hiking, photography, and nature observation. A footbridge crosses Bishop Creek, providing access to additional recreation areas. The campground is located just past the South Lake turnoff on the road to Lake Sabrina, making it convenient for exploring the Bishop Creek drainage. This is bear country, and campers must properly store food and scented items. The campground is best suited for tent camping and smaller vehicles due to the terrain and site configuration. With flush toilets and drinking water available from a hand pump, Intake 2 provides basic amenities in a beautiful mountain setting.
Directions
From Bishop, head west on State Route 168 (Line Street/West Line Street) for approximately 16 miles. The Intake 2 Campground will be on your left, just past the South Lake turnoff on the road to Lake Sabrina.
