About
Four Jeffrey is one of the larger developed campgrounds in the Bishop Creek drainage, offering 106 campsites along the South Fork of Bishop Creek at 8,100 feet elevation. The campground occupies a valley between Grouse Mountain and Table Mountain, with a mix of shaded sites under Jeffrey pines and more open sites. The creek runs through the area and is stocked with rainbow, brown, brook, and Alpers trout, making this a popular base for anglers. All sites include picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Flush toilets and potable water from hand pumps are available throughout. The campground operates with a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites. This is active bear country, and proper food storage is mandatory. The Tyee Lakes Trailhead lies less than a mile up the road, providing access to the John Muir Wilderness with views of the Inconsolable Range and peaks surrounding South Lake. The area offers numerous hiking and horseback riding opportunities into the backcountry.
Directions
From Bishop, go west on State Route 168 (Line Street) approximately 16 miles. Turn left at the South Lake Road junction and proceed one mile south to the campground on the left.
