About

Mountain Glen Campground is a small, intimate campground located along Bishop Creek on the South Lake Road in Inyo National Forest. With just five walk-in sites tucked among aspens and willows next to the creek, it offers a peaceful camping experience at 8,200 feet elevation. The campground is particularly popular as a staging area for backpacking trips into the John Muir Wilderness or as a quiet weeklong retreat. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. Bear boxes are provided and must be used, as this is active bear country. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own. The intimate setting and limited parking make this campground best suited for tent campers and those seeking a more primitive experience. Sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Bishop Creek offers excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow and brown trout. The campground's location provides easy access to South Lake and numerous hiking trails leading into the Sierra Nevada backcountry. The scenic Bishop Creek canyon features stunning alpine scenery, particularly during fall when the aspens turn golden.

Directions

From Bishop, take State Route 168 (Line Street) west approximately 15 miles. Turn left at the junction of South Lake Road. The campground is on the left approximately 3 miles past Four Jeffrey Campground.
