About

Located at the site of the first Fire Guard Station, Sweetwater Guard Station Campground offers a remote camping experience in the Wind River Mountains. The campground features 8 pull-in sites and 3 walk-in sites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Situated next to the Sweetwater River with the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail on the opposite bank, the location provides excellent opportunities for fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing. The campground is ADA accessible, with one accessible pit toilet and all drive-up sites featuring wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and fire rings with grill attachments. The access road is an improved dirt road typically well-maintained during summer months, but there is no winter maintenance and the site becomes accessible only by snowmobile during winter. The campground is located approximately 73 miles from Rock Springs and 69 miles from Lander, making it a truly remote destination. This is a non-fee, first-come, first-served campground with no hookups or potable water available. Trash receptacles are secured against bears with carabiner-type clips. Cell phone reception is not available. The 14-day stay limit applies. Nearby Sweetwater Bridge and Blucher Creek campgrounds offer similar features within 3 to 5 miles.
