About

Dickinson Creek Campground is a primitive 15-site campground situated near the boundary of the Popo Agie Wilderness in Shoshone National Forest. The campground provides basic amenities including two vault toilets, picnic tables, cook grates, and bear boxes for required food storage. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own. The location serves as an excellent base for wilderness exploration, with several trails leading into the Popo Agie Wilderness and to numerous mountain lakes, the largest being Shoshone Lake. The area offers opportunities for backpacking, day hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and scenic photography. The campground accommodates RVs and trailers up to 20 feet in length with a maximum stay limit of 16 days. Access requires traveling through Wind River Indian Reservation lands, and all visitors must purchase tribal fishing licenses for everyone in their party to travel on Moccasin Lake Road. Licenses are available at Popo Agie One Stop in Lander or Hines General Store in Fort Washakie. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no camping fees. Cell service is not available, and there is no garbage collection, so pack-it-in, pack-it-out practices are required.

Directions

From Lander, travel 15 miles northwest on U.S. Highway 26/287. Turn left (west) at Hines Store then travel southwest for 19 miles on Moccasin Lake Road (Forest Road 329). Note: Purchase of a tribal fishing license is required for everyone in your party to access Moccasin Lake Road.
