Dutch Joe Campground

Open — Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. Winter access may be limited or impossible due to snow on unpaved access roads. Limited to 14 consecutive days per 28-day period.

About

Dutch Joe Campground is a primitive, undeveloped camping area managed by the Bureau of Land Management in the remote Wind River Range of western Wyoming. Situated at approximately 8,520 feet elevation in Sublette County, this fee-free site offers backcountry camping for those seeking access to the adjacent Bridger Wilderness. The campground features a low water crossing over Dutch Joe Creek and is located near the Dutch Joe Guard Station area. Access to the campground requires navigating approximately 27 miles of unpaved roads from State Highway 28, including the Continental Divide Road and BLM Road 4113. The remote location and high elevation make this an ideal base camp for wilderness backpacking trips into the Bridger Wilderness. As an undeveloped site, campers should be prepared for primitive conditions with no developed amenities or services. The area is subject to typical BLM dispersed camping regulations, with a 14-day stay limit within any 28-day period. Winter access can be challenging due to snow on the access roads, though the campground remains technically open year-round for those equipped for winter backcountry travel.

Directions

Take State Highway 28 to County 23-132 Continental Divide Road. Go north 24 miles to BLM 4113, then north three miles to the Dutch Joe exclosure.
