About
Louis Lake Campground is a small, primitive campground with nine sites situated around Louis Lake and the outlet of Louis Creek in Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest. The area around the inlet is very marshy and provides habitat for abundant wildlife, making it appealing for nature observation. The campground provides basic amenities including two vault toilets, picnic tables, and cook grates at sites. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own water supply. Food storage is required due to bear activity in the area, and bear boxes are provided. There is no cell service at this location. The nearby Louis Lake Boating and Picnic Site includes a boat ramp, vault toilet, picnic tables, and cook grates for day use. Louis Lake Lodge is located nearby and offers boat and horse rentals for those looking to explore the lake and surrounding backcountry.
Directions
From Lander, go south on State Highway 28 for 34.5 miles to historic South Pass. Go north on Forest Road 300 (right before South Pass City) 7.5 miles to the campground.
