About
Sweetwater Day Use Area is located on Allatoona Lake along the Etowah River in Cherokee County, Georgia, offering a peaceful escape just 45 miles from Atlanta. The park provides a designated swimming beach, a covered group shelter with electric hookups that seats up to 100 people, restrooms, a playground, sand volleyball court, and horseshoe pit. Forty parking spaces are reserved for shelter reservations until 1 p.m., after which they open to general public use. The 11-mile long Allatoona Lake and its 270 miles of shoreline provide excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. The rolling hills surrounding the lake are thickly forested with oak, maple, hickory, dogwood, magnolia, and pine. Wildlife is abundant, including white-tailed deer, bobcats, red and gray fox, raccoons, squirrels, and occasionally black bears. The park operates seasonally and charges a $4 entrance fee during open season. Alcohol and pets are not permitted. The park is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and shelter reservations can be made through Recreation.gov.
