About
Galt's Ferry Day Use Area is situated on Allatoona Lake on the Etowah River, a tributary of the Coosa River, providing a serene lakeside retreat just 35 miles north of Atlanta. This popular Army Corps of Engineers facility features an expansive sandy beach, making it one of the busier day-use areas on the lake during summer months. The park includes a three-lane boat ramp open year-round (water levels permitting), a reservable open-air shelter with seating for 100 people, restrooms, a playground, fishing jetty, and horseshoe pit. The 270 miles of Allatoona Lake shoreline provide opportunities for boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, water skiing, and tubing. The rolling hills surrounding the lake are thickly forested with oak, maple, blackgum, dogwood, magnolia, and hickory trees. Wildlife includes raccoons, opossums, bobcats, foxes, white-tailed deer, and occasionally black bears. The shelter reservation includes 30 designated parking spaces until 1 p.m., after which unused spaces open to the general public. Alcohol and pets are not permitted at this facility.
