About

Red Top Mountain State Park sits on the shores of 12,000-acre Lake Allatoona, offering one of the premier camping experiences in north Georgia. The main campground features 93 campsites, with the majority offering water and 30-50 amp electric hookups. Each site includes a picnic table and either a fire ring or grille. The campground has received significant recent renovations, including ADA upgrades, full sewer hookups at select sites, and 100-amp power pedestals at upgraded locations. The park is best known for its water recreation opportunities, with two boat ramps, boat docks, and a sandy beach nestled in a tree-lined cove. Visitors enjoy swimming, water skiing, fishing, and boating throughout the season. For land-based activities, the park offers over 15 miles of trails, including the 4-mile Iron Hill Trail open to both hikers and bikers, and a paved accessible trail leading to a reconstructed 1860s homestead. Named for the rich red soil colored by iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain has historical significance as a former mining area. The park also maintains the nearby Allatoona Pass Battlefield with well-preserved Civil War trenches and earthworks. In addition to standard campsites, the park offers a lakeside yurt, 20 cottages, and a pioneer group campground for tent camping. Modern bathhouse facilities with hot showers are strategically located throughout the campground.
