About
Swan Lake Cabin is a remote 12x14-foot cabin set back from the eastern tip of Swan Lake in Chugach National Forest on the Kenai Peninsula. The cabin sits at 1,400 feet elevation, surrounded by spruce and birch forest with meadows and views of the lake and nearby mountains. The rustic cabin sleeps 6 and provides a table, wood stove, splitting maul, crosscut saw, outhouse, and rowboat with oars for exploring the lake. Access is via the Resurrection Pass Trail, 12.8 miles from the south trailhead at milepost 53.2 on Sterling Highway. The cabin can be reached by hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding (June 30-April 1), skiing, or snowmobile during designated alternate winters when motorized use is allowed December 1-April 30. Floatplane access is also available, with 15-minute flights from Cooper Landing or 30-minute flights from Moose Pass. Swan Lake offers excellent fishing for rainbow trout, lake trout, Dolly Varden, and sockeye salmon. The surrounding area provides hunting opportunities for grouse, ptarmigan, moose, and black and brown bears during open seasons. Alaska Department of Fish & Game licenses and permits are required. This is extremely remote wilderness requiring self-sufficiency, bear safety awareness, and preparation for weather delays. Visitors must bring all bedding, cooking equipment, food, and extra supplies for 2-5 days beyond planned stay. No running water, electricity, or firewood provided.
Directions
From Resurrection Pass Trail South Trailhead at milepost 53.2 on Sterling Highway, hike 12.8 miles to the cabin. Accessible by hiking, mountain biking, horseback (seasonal), skiing, snowmobile (alternate winters), or floatplane (15 minutes from Cooper Landing, 30 minutes from Moose Pass). Refer to USGS map Seward C8.
