About

Quartz Creek Campground is nestled between Kenai Lake and Quartz Creek in Cooper Landing, Alaska, within the 5-million-acre Chugach National Forest. The campground offers 45 sites including single and double sites suitable for both tents and small RVs, with paved roads and parking spurs throughout. At 500 feet elevation, the relatively flat terrain is dotted with small spruce trees, and most sites provide sweeping views of Kenai Lake. Kenai Lake is the third largest lake on the Kenai Peninsula, stretching over 20 miles long and 500 feet deep with approximately 14,000 acres of water. The campground's boat ramp provides access to the lake for fishing rainbow trout, lake trout, and Dolly Varden. Quartz Creek also offers fishing opportunities for rainbow trout and Dolly Varden later in summer. Just two miles east, Kenai Lake becomes the world-famous Kenai River, renowned for trophy trout and salmon fishing. Nearby recreation includes the Crescent Creek Trail leading six miles to Crescent Lake, the 38-mile Resurrection Pass Trail, and salmon viewing from the Quartz Creek bridge from late July through September. The Old Sterling Highway provides OHV access and wildlife viewing opportunities. Bears, moose, mountain goats, and wolves inhabit the surrounding forest of ice fields, alpine tundra, jagged mountains, and dense forests.

Directions

From Anchorage, take Seward Highway to Sterling Highway south for 100 miles and turn onto Quartz Creek Road before reaching Kenai Lake.
