About
Quartz Creek Campground occupies a prime location in the Chugach National Forest, nestled between Kenai Lake and Quartz Creek near Cooper Landing. At just 500 feet elevation, the relatively flat terrain is dotted with small spruce trees and most campsites offer impressive views across the lake. The campground provides direct boat ramp access to Kenai Lake, a 20-mile-long, 500-foot-deep lake covering 14,000 acres. Fishing opportunities abound in the area. Kenai Lake holds rainbow trout, lake trout, and Dolly Varden, while Quartz Creek produces rainbow and Dolly Varden later in summer. Two miles east, Kenai Lake becomes the world-famous Kenai River, renowned for trophy trout and salmon fishing. Rafting and drift fishing are popular on the river, with numerous local outfitters available. The campground features 46 sites with paved roads and parking spurs accommodating RVs up to 40 feet. Amenities include flush toilets, drinking water, fire pits, picnic tables, and a boat launch. Nearby attractions include Crescent Creek Trail, which leads six miles to Crescent Lake, and the Old Sterling Highway open to OHV use. The Tern Lake Day Use Area offers bird watching for arctic terns, trumpeter swans, and other species.
Directions
From Anchorage, take Seward Highway to Sterling Highway south for 100 miles. Turn onto Quartz Creek Road before reaching Kenai Lake.
