About
Juneau Lake Cabin is a backcountry Forest Service rental cabin situated on the eastern shore of scenic Juneau Lake along the Resurrection Pass Trail in Alaska's Chugach National Forest. At 1,300 feet elevation, the cabin is surrounded by spruce and birch forest with views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The area supports diverse wildlife and offers excellent opportunities for fishing, hunting, hiking, and wildlife viewing. The 14x17-ft log cabin accommodates up to 8 people (4 comfortably) and is equipped with wooden bunks, a table, benches, and a wood stove for heating. A splitting maul and crosscut saw are provided for firewood preparation. An outhouse serves as the toilet facility. Notably, a canoe with paddles is provided for lake recreation. Visitors can fish for rainbow trout, whitefish, burbot, and grayling. This is a primitive cabin with no electricity, potable water, mattresses, bedding, or cooking utensils. Guests must bring sleeping bags, pads, a cook stove, food, and drinking water or means to treat lake/stream water. All garbage and food must be packed out. The cabin is accessed by hiking 9.5 miles from milepost 53.2 on Sterling Highway, or by floatplane, mountain bike, horseback, cross-country skiing, or snowmobile during permitted seasons.
Directions
From the Resurrection Pass South Trailhead at milepost 53.2 on Sterling Highway near Cooper Landing, hike 9.5 miles north to the cabin. From the Resurrection Pass North Trailhead at milepost 4 on Resurrection Creek Road, hike 29.3 miles south. Also accessible by floatplane, mountain bike, horseback (July-March), cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobile during open seasons.
