The strongest winds are expected through this morning. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Big Run State Park, located at the mouth of the Savage River Reservoir in Garrett County, Maryland, offers a primitive camping experience amidst the natural beauty of the surrounding Savage River State Forest. The park features 29 campsites available year-round, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Sites 60-75 are wooded with stone-dust camping pads, while sites 78-90 are situated in an open grassy field. The Monroe Run Group Campsite accommodates up to 25 people and includes a large shelter with a stone fireplace and electricity. Additionally, the Creekside Group Campsite, nestled alongside Big Run, can host up to 12 people and features a camping pad with a fire ring and picnic tables. Campers should be prepared for primitive conditions: there are two waterless toilet facilities, and no drinking water is available on-site. Cell phone service is unavailable within the park. Recreational opportunities include fishing, boating, hiking, and hunting. The park's location provides easy access to the Savage River Reservoir and the extensive trail system of the Savage River State Forest.

Directions

From Interstate 68, take Exit 22. Follow Chestnut Ridge Road south for 2 miles, then turn left onto New Germany Road. Continue south for 5 miles, then turn left onto Big Run Road. Follow Big Run Road east for 5 miles to the park entrance at the intersection of Big Run Road and Savage River Road.
