About
Surry Mountain Lake Beach is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers day-use recreation area located on the Ashuelot River in Surry, New Hampshire. This facility serves as the primary recreation area for Surry Mountain Lake, built in 1941 as part of a flood control network on tributaries of the Connecticut River. The park features a 600-foot sandy beach with a designated swim area (no lifeguards on duty), three reservable picnic shelters with electric hookups, numerous picnic tables and grills scattered throughout open grassy areas, a playground, and a boat ramp suitable for small boats, kayaks, and canoes. The lake allows motorboats with no-wake restrictions and has a 10-horsepower engine limit. The Ashuelot River offers fishing opportunities for bass and stocked trout, and ice fishing is available in winter. Surry Mountain Lake Beach operates as a day-use area only with no overnight camping permitted. The park is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with Monday and Tuesday designated as walk-in access days when the office and certain amenities may be closed. During the current season, flush restrooms are not operational and portable toilets are provided instead. This is a carry-in, carry-out facility with no trash services. Dogs are permitted on leash but not allowed on the beach. As a flood control facility, the park may experience flooding during severe storm events, and beach advisories may be posted due to water quality issues.
