About
Sunset Cove Campground occupies a forested cove on Odell Lake's northern shore within Deschutes National Forest. The 20 sites are set among towering Douglas fir, white fir, hemlock, and ponderosa pine, with huckleberry understory. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The campground provides vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump. No hookups are available. The campground's boat ramp provides direct access to Odell Lake, a cold, deep lake known for kokanee salmon, lake trout, and rainbow trout. Afternoon winds make the lake popular with windsurfers but can create rough conditions, so boaters should plan accordingly. Both motorized and non-motorized boats are permitted. A handful of boat slips are available first-come, first-served. Diamond Peak (8,744 ft) dominates the view to the west, with the Diamond Peak Wilderness accessible via nearby trails. Wildlife in the area includes deer, elk, pine martens, and black bears. The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway passes nearby, connecting to numerous other recreation opportunities in the region.
