Overnight stays are not permitted from May 1 through November 14. The shelter reopens for overnight use November 15. During the winter season, shelters operate first-come, first-served with a 3-night maximum stay and 4-person capacity. Oregon Sno-Park permit required November 1 through April 30.

Westview Shelter is a backcountry ski shelter located along the Westview Snow Trail System in Oregon's Willamette National Forest. The shelter sits approximately one mile from Gold Lake Sno-Park, accessible via cross-country skiing when snow conditions permit. It provides a warming stop and overnight option for winter recreationists exploring the extensive groomed and ungroomed trail network in the area. The shelter is a three-sided structure with a wood stove for heating, a sleeping loft, a wood picnic table, and a gravel floor. Overnight capacity is limited to four persons with a maximum stay of three nights. The shelter operates on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved; exclusive use by individuals or groups is prohibited. All visitors must pack out garbage and human waste. No potable water or restroom facilities are available at the shelter. Access requires skiing from Gold Lake Sno-Park, located 30 miles east of Oakridge at milepost 61.5 on Highway 58. An Oregon State Sno-Park permit is required November 1 through April 30.

Directions

From Oakridge, follow Highway 58 east for approximately 30 miles to Gold Lake Sno-Park at milepost 61.5. From the parking area, ski approximately one mile following signs to Westview Shelter.
