About
Sunnyside Campground occupies a scenic spot on the southeast shore of Cougar Reservoir within the Willamette National Forest. At 1,700 feet elevation, a mature conifer grove provides welcome shade across the 13 semi-private campsites. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, and the campground provides vault toilets, garbage collection, and firewood for purchase. No potable water is available on site, though nearby Slide Creek Campground offers drinking water. The campground's steep entrance road makes it unsuitable for motorhomes and trailers; tent campers and smaller vehicles fare best here. Camping in the Cougar Recreation Area is restricted to developed campgrounds, and a 14-day stay limit per 60-day period applies. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times. Recreation opportunities abound in the surrounding area. Hikers and mountain bikers can explore the French Pete Trail, Box Canyon Trail, and Indian Ridge Lookout. Terwilliger Hot Springs, a popular day-use soaking area along Rider Creek, is a short drive away. The South Fork McKenzie River and Cougar Reservoir provide excellent fishing and paddling.
Directions
From Blue River, travel 4 miles east on Highway 126 to Aufderheide Drive (Forest Road 19). Head south on Aufderheide Drive for 8 miles, then turn left onto Forest Road 500 and continue 0.5 miles to the campground.
