Sunny Gulch Campground
The campground is currently closed for the season and reopens around May 22, 2026. The operating season runs May through September, with the lower loop closing September 16 and upper loop closing September 21. Reservations for the 10 reservable sites are available through Recreation.gov; remaining sites are first-come, first-served.

About
Sunny Gulch Campground occupies a scenic stretch along the Salmon River approximately 4 miles south of Stanley, Idaho. The campground offers 45 campsites including 8 double sites, all situated beneath a lodgepole pine canopy with views of the surrounding Sawtooth Mountains. Ten sites accept advance reservations through Recreation.gov, while the remaining 35 operate first-come, first-served. The Salmon River provides excellent fishing opportunities with rainbow trout, Westslope cutthroat trout, and occasional hybrid cutbows and bull trout available. A day-use area for picnicking and fishing is located near the campground entrance. The campground lies just 3 miles from Redfish Lake and provides access to an estimated 750 miles of trails that crisscross the valley and surrounding mountains, including the Alpine Way Trail and Idaho Centennial Trail. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water, and paved roads with paved parking spurs. The Sunny Gulch Pavilion offers a group shelter with grills, utility tables, and a dutch oven cooking surface. Summer temperatures average highs around 78°F with lows near 40°F.
Directions
From Stanley, go 4 miles south on ID-75 and follow the signs to the campground. The campground is on the north side of the highway, between the road and the Salmon River.
