About

Redfish Overflow Camping provides a no-cost alternative for campers visiting the Redfish Lake area when the developed campgrounds are full. Located in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area near Stanley, Idaho, this designated dispersed camping area sits in forested terrain between the Sawtooth and White Cloud Mountains at approximately 6,500 feet elevation. The camping area is primitive by design, featuring established sites with stone fire rings and a vault toilet. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The access road can be rough with ruts and rocks, making it unsuitable for larger RVs over 20 feet. Multiple sites are available, providing a rustic experience just a short walk from the developed Sunny Gulch Campground. The area falls under SNRA regulations including a 10-day occupancy limit within any 30-day period within a 30-mile radius. Pets must be kept on leash, and all current fire restrictions apply. The nearby Salmon River offers excellent fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, and bull trout.

Directions

From Stanley, Idaho, travel south on Highway 75 approximately 4 miles. The overflow area is located about 1/2 mile north of Sunny Gulch Campground on the highway, closer to the Redfish Lake Road turnoff.
