About

Summit Lake Stock Corral serves equestrian campers in Lassen Volcanic National Park at an elevation of 6,700 feet. Located on the main park road, the facility sits within walking distance of scenic Summit Lake and seven miles from the Lassen Peak trailhead. The corral provides convenient access to one of the park's major trail systems, just a quarter mile away via a dedicated horse trail leading to the Summit Lake Ranger Station. Riders can explore the park's 150 miles of trails from this central location. The nearby Cluster Lakes loop trail leads into the park's interior, bypassing several alpine lakes and offering excellent birding opportunities. The Pacific Crest Trail runs through the park and is accessible from the stock corral, along with trails to Juniper Lake, Snag Lake, and Butte Lake. Lassen Volcanic National Park sits at the junction of the Cascade Mountains, Sierra Nevada Mountains, and Great Basin, creating diverse habitats that support over 700 species of flowering plants and 250 native species. The park features 300 active volcanic domes, hydrothermal features including mud pots and steam vents, and Lassen Peak, the southernmost active volcano in the Cascades.

Directions

From Redding, take State Highway 44 east approximately 48 miles to the Manzanita Lake entrance. The stock corral is 14 miles south on the main park road. At Summit Lake Ranger Station, continue approximately 1/8 mile to a service road on the right. Turn right and take the first fork right up the hill to the campsite and corrals.
