Southwest Walk-in Campground offers a convenient base for exploring Lassen Volcanic National Park's hydrothermal features and volcanic landscapes. Located at 6,700 feet elevation, the campground is just one mile from the Southwest Entrance and immediately adjacent to the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, providing easy access to restrooms, water, and park information. The campground features 20 walk-in tent sites reached via a short paved path from the parking area, with each site including a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-resistant food storage locker. An additional 5 sites accommodate self-contained RVs and trailers up to 36 feet, parked between medians in the lot. Flush toilets and potable water are available year-round in the visitor center vestibule. All camping is first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Campers must self-register and pay via the Scan & Pay QR code system using the Recreation.gov mobile app. The campground typically operates from mid-May through October, with winter camping available in a separate snow-camping area south of the parking lot.

Directions

From the Southwest Entrance, drive one mile into the park. The campground is adjacent to the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center parking area on the east side.
