About

The Southwest Parking Area Self-Contained Camping provides year-round overnight accommodations in the center section of the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center parking lot. This facility operates even when the adjacent Southwest Walk-in Campground is closed due to snow, typically from November through May. The parking area is located at 6,700 feet elevation in the southwest corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park along Highway 89, approximately one mile from the southwest entrance station. Only self-contained vehicles such as motorhomes, campers, and trailers are permitted. Tents, fires, fire pans, and portable gas fire pits are prohibited in the parking area. Self-contained barbecues and gas stoves are allowed. Campers must park in designated spaces between the medians and occupy only one parking space to allow for traffic flow and snow-plowing operations. Vehicles extending beyond parking space width and blocking traffic flow are not permitted. The facility offers 5 to 15 parking spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment is made through Recreation.gov's Scan & Pay mobile app at $10 per night. The location provides access to flush toilets and potable water year-round at the visitor center, though some facilities may be seasonally limited. All parking spaces are paved and flat with ADA-accessible sidewalks. Maximum RV and trailer length is 36 feet.
