About

Sulphide Del Rey Campground occupies the historic site of an old mining company in the Pinal Mountains, approximately 9 miles southwest of Globe, Arizona. The miners who worked at lower elevations during the day would retreat here to escape the desert heat. Today, the site offers a peaceful mountain camping experience among ponderosa pines with abundant wildlife. This is a primitive, free campground within Tonto National Forest. Amenities are limited to vault toilets and picnic tables. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Trash service is not provided; follow pack-it-in, pack-it-out principles. Fires are permitted only in designated areas when fire restrictions are not in effect. Access requires navigating unpaved Forest Roads. From Globe, take Jess Hayes Road southeast to the junction of Icehouse Canyon Road (FR 112) and Six-shooter Canyon Road (FR 22). Continue on FR 112 for about 2 miles to the FR 55 junction, take the right fork, and follow the unpaved FR 55 for approximately 2 miles. At the FR 55/FR 651 junction, turn left and proceed 5 miles to the campground.
