About
Situated along the Gila-Pinal Scenic Route, Oak Flat Campground is located in the rolling hills near Devil's Canyon within Tonto National Forest. The campground sits at 4,200 feet elevation and features an abundance of large oak trees that provide natural shade throughout the camping area. The surrounding landscape is characterized by its natural desert beauty and is internationally known for its world-class bouldering and rock climbing opportunities. This free, primitive campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. Campers can stay up to 14 consecutive days. The campground is accessible to trailers under 30 feet and offers vault toilets and picnic tables at each site. There is no potable water available, and campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash as there are no trash services. Oak Flat is popular with families, rock climbers, off-roaders, and backcountry adventurers. The area provides access to hiking trails and showcases the stunning landscape of the Tonto National Forest. Fires are allowed only in designated areas when fire restrictions are not in effect. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and generators are not permitted during quiet hours.
Directions
From Superior, travel east for 3 miles on US Highway 60 and turn right (south) on Forest Road 469 (partially paved). Travel approximately 1 mile and turn left into the campground.
