About
Situated in the rolling hills near Devil's Canyon along the Gila-Pinal Scenic Route, Oak Flat Campground offers 16 primitive campsites shaded by an abundance of large oak trees. The campground sits at 3,900 feet elevation and is known for its natural desert beauty and world-class bouldering opportunities in the surrounding area. The campground provides basic amenities including two accessible vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire grills at each site. However, campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Sites are free and available on a first-come first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit. Trailers are limited to under 30 feet. Following a federal land exchange completed in March 2026, the campground is now managed by 4Winds Contracting, an Apache-owned business, which maintains the facilities and ensures public access continues for climbers, campers, and day visitors.
Directions
From Superior, travel east for 3 miles on US Highway 60 and turn right (south) on Forest Road 469 (partially paved). Travel approximately 1 mile and turn left into the campground.
