About

Straits State Park Campground occupies a prime location on Lake Huron with commanding views of the Mackinac Bridge and the Straits of Mackinac. The campground features 270 sites spread across three loops: an upper loop on a bluff with larger, more open sites including pull-throughs, and two lower loops with smaller sites better suited for tent camping and smaller trailers. Modern sites in the upper and lower loops include 20/30-amp electrical service with some 50-amp options available. The lower campground also features 15 semi-modern waterfront sites without electrical hookups but with access to modern facilities and direct bridge views. The campground provides modern toilet and shower buildings, accessible facilities, two sanitation stations with potable water, and two ADA-accessible mini cabins sleeping four people each. Youth groups can reserve two rustic tent-only areas accommodating up to 50 people. The park includes 181 acres of recreation with picnic areas, observation platforms, a playground, a mile-long hiking trail connecting to the North Country Trail, and carry-in paddling access along the rocky Lake Huron shoreline. Located in St. Ignace, the park serves as an excellent base camp for regional attractions. Mackinac Island is accessible via ferry, while Mackinac State Historic Parks, the Soo Locks, and Tahquamenon Falls are within easy driving distance. The park sits on the Northern Huron Birding Trail and is especially notable during spring and fall migrations. The Father Marquette National Memorial within the park tells the story of 17th-century French and Native American cultural exchanges, though it is temporarily closed through July 2026 for construction of a new learning commons building and pow wow grounds improvements.
